Say it with Shoes - Part 1

My sister and I share some very special shoes -- heirlooms, you might say. Or maybe not. Though they may not be of any value to anyone else, the stories are priceless to us.

About 15 years ago, I was at a thrift store with my mom and pointed out some orange "jelly" shoes and convinced her that my sister Pam would probably like them very much. She must have bought them for her, and I totally forgot about them. Until the next Christmas. Among the gifts from my sister was a nicely wrapped shoe box with a note that said something about how thoughtful I was in picking these out for her, and although they were used, she'd refurbished them and wanted to pass them along to me. I couldn't stop laughing when I opened the box and found the jelly shoes! Pam had decorated them with ribbons and things, and had lined the insides with Christmas print fabric. Too funny! Over the years, they have been re-decorated and passed back and forth between us for some monumental occasions and have been celebratory shoes for: homecoming, my 30th birthday, our "Spa Day", a wedding day, a day at the beach, her 40th birthday, my 40th birthday, her trip to Memphis with my mom...I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but you're getting the picture, right?

When my sister mentioned she'd sent me a package and wanted me to get it before my upcoming surgery (tomorrow -- YAY!!!), I figured it'd be a care package -- you know, some good reading, maybe some snacks, etc. I didn't even think about the shoes! But SHE did! In the post below is a picture of how she decorated them for me.

Hello mother.
Nice blog.
Anyway, you need to update your profile. And change my age to 16. =D
